毕业于维也纳应用艺术大学跨媒体艺术系，以维也纳与汉堡为创作据点，目前亦任教于维也纳艺术大学。师事奥地利艺术家Adolf Frohner与捷克当代摄影艺术家Jiři David。自2006起积极参与维也纳的展览，2018在维也纳White Cube Yellow举办个展，于维也纳当代艺术馆、维也纳博物馆区等多种艺术机构展出。获奥地利超级联赛100周年艺术竞赛Art Challenge首奖。Kohlhuber以文字为题，透过绘画、装置、凋塑、动画等不同形式的创作，主张艺术作品为传递讯息的载体，探讨在沟通过程中，图像或文字如何传达意义，又是如何被诠释和解读。作品获奥地利知名藏家 Martin Lenikus收藏机构Sammlung Lenikus收藏。
Isabella Kohlhuber 的创作核心，相当特别的是，她思考了当代艺术形式的深层意义，许多在当代艺术中被认为是常用的手法，如：複製(Reproduction)、拟象(Simulation)、挪用(Appropriation)等手段，都被她一再挑出来检视及质问。艺术作品传递了讯息，而知识则是让观众如何去「理解影像」，她想要探求的是这样「理解的过程」其中的脉络。因此，擅长使用各种媒材创作的她，也创造了一种字母，称为Bastards (混合许多字母的原型)，让这些文字在被阅读时，需要自行「解码」，发展出新的意义。而文本的选择，也反映出Kohlhuber所关心的、批判的及认同的想法。
思考意义在艺术的创作历史中并非少见，1968年时，由Seth Siegelaub策画，被认为是第一个观念艺术的展览，展示列印出来的文本材料，因为文字的意义已经表达了观念，并且做为一种艺术形式。当1960年代西方进入高度发展社会的阶段，大众传播与广告业的蓬勃，尤其媒体即讯息 (The medium is the message) 的环境，对观念艺术的产生有着重要作用，如何解读讯息也同样是现代人所面临的课题之一。法国哲学家布希亚也曾提到，这是一个影像比真实更真 实的纪元；也是在后现代主义的概念中，大概也没有什麽新东西可以独创，所以过去的一切及其副本皆可以重新使用，并且视为同等。发展至今，在庞大的讯息洪流下，却往往暗藏着对真实的追求，促使艺术理论走向观念性的表达，而意义的製造、传达及真实性备受重视。
2018 在 Bluerider ART 的亚洲首个展’Untitled’，分别呈现了Isabella Kohlhuber在不同媒材上展现独特的叙事逻辑。作品From the Law，文本取材过去奥地利的声音载体法律授权声明，并使用Bastards字母金属薄片列印出来，实则也在批判艺术中「挪用」的手法，在知识产权的原创概念下如何界定的问题。作品B+0066–B+0090，则是使用Bastards字母的笔画形成一个动画，使用视觉动态、变换造型的方式，不断延展字母的顺序及轮廓，渐进缓慢如同手工动画的质感，观众在阅读时便解读意义，语言就被表现成一种开放的发展过程。作品 Untitled (Lines)，则是另一件带有温度及活力的创作，艺术家使用墨水及身体运动，以规律的震盪公式，完成了一种绵延不绝的视觉动态，象徵了每日生活的机械性，像时间的洪流、快速移动的高速风景，从点至线，当线条成为一种语言，视觉的自主性就此展开。
Isabella Kohlhuber 的艺术作品，透过了「语言」(非传统指涉的语言) 来活在艺术中，并且利用艺术做为一种量体，介入城市空间中。避免用张扬的形式，让语言可以在艺术中自治且独立，是一种「对理解做出的深邃理解」、更对「意义被製造的过程」有了新的诠释，在每一回清醒便接受大量讯息的当今社会中，邀请观众一起解码，追求世界真实的模样。
