Dylan Martinez holds a Master of Fine Arts in Glass Art from Ball State University in the United States. He specializes in glass exploration of medium and visual interaction, impacting viewers' visual experiences through variations in light, space, and form. Dylan has been honored with multiple international competition awards, including the Innovation Prize at the Milan International Art Glass and Design Competition and the First Prize at the Pittsburgh Glass Center.
Our vision has the greatest effect on our understanding of the world. Through his artwork, Dylan Martinez creates scenarios in which the viewer must question their capacity to navigate between reality and illusion. His curiosity of perception is driven by the fact that Martinez is red-green colorblind. Having a deficit in his color vision is an alternative way of seeing. Inspired by Trompe L’oeil, Water Bag series is entirely hot sculpted glass, which appear as plastic bags of water. The trapped movement of the rising bubbles and the gesture of the forms convince the eye that the sculptures are just as they seem. What is fascinating is that our desires often override our true perception of reality and you believe what you think is visible as the truth.
