(Germany, b. 1958)
Heiner Geisbe (Germany, b. 1958) currently lives and works in Straelen, Germany, and is active in both the German and international contemporary art scenes. Geisbe holds a Master’s degree in painting from the Münster branch of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and studied philosophy and geography at the University of Münster, demonstrating a profound engagement with both artistic and intellectual systems. His practice spans painting, visual art, and interdisciplinary media, characterized by a fusion of figuration and abstraction, and is dedicated to exploring the tension and translation between form and concept. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including at the Museum for Art and Cultural History of Westphalia-Lippe in Münster, Germany, and the Kunstverein Unna in Germany. He has also been the recipient of various art grants and has undertaken residencies at the House of Creative Work in Oslo, Norway, and the Frans Masereel Centre for Graphic Arts in Kasterlee, Belgium.
Geisbe’s works are known for their delicate brushwork and profound color palettes. He often transforms observations of nature into expressions of emotion and philosophical reflection. Merging techniques of printmaking and painting, his works resemble botanical illustrations on the surface, yet transcend mere representation of nature. Rather than aiming to evoke natural life, his pieces use personal experience and emotional resonance with landscapes and themes to uncover latent relationships between natural aesthetics and cultural structures. His art offers a deep contemplation on “seeing” as a creative act, echoing philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s insight: “There is another world waiting to be discovered.”
