Angela Glajcar (Germany, b.1970) was born in Mainz and studied sculpture at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg. She currently lives and works in Germany. In this exhibition, Angela Glajcar’s practice demonstrates how materially distinct papers—German industrial paper, hanji, and fiberglass—can be harnessed for their individual properties and expressive potentials. Her use of century-old German industrial paper is particularly striking: engineered to resist moisture, mould, and humidity, it undergoes an exacting industrial process that yields an exceptionally flat, stable surface.
Often describing herself as “a writer of space,” Glajcar redefines sculptural practice through the use of paper as her primary medium. By hand-piering paper, she transforms a traditionally two-dimensional material into powerful sculptural architectures. Glajcar’s worksare characterized by the tension between force and fragility. Through torn edges and layered structures, reorganizing irregular forms into a new spatial order that transcends physical structure and points toward a spiritual dimension. Light and shadow play a central role in her practice, allowing white paper to become a poetic language of space.
