Juxtaposition of Animals, Traces, Landscapes, and Man-Made Architecture
The artist creates structures resembling architectural forms using various materials, placing animals, the traces of their lives, and distant landscapes atop them. This deliberate disruption of the original context puts life and human-made objects on the same plane. The sensual presence of animals and their traces contrasts with the coldness of the images, highlighting the conflict between them. Through multiple perspectives and abrupt contrasts, the artist seeks a sense of lightness that transcends a singular viewpoint, as well as the energy that emerges from boundaries and contradictions.

Beneath the dense, mist-like purplish-red are the hoofprints left by a herd of horses. The artist seeks to depict this scene as something distant yet passionate. As traces of the horses' existence, these prints represent the changes they impose upon the world, much like how architecture accompanies civilization. The correspondence between these elements creates a sense of contrast and tension. The imagery is referenced from the mountain ranges of the Caucasus region.

About the Artist

Sun Yihan
China,b.2003

BFA Candidate, Integrated Painting, China Academy of Art. Based in Hangzhou. He captures the traces of time embedded in architectural structures, framing the depicted humans and animals within wooden panels, much like a timeline recorded on walls. This allows a reflective observation of oneself across extended time and space, maintaining a sense of distance without becoming engulfed or distracted. The fragmented depiction of figures alongside animals evokes the individual stepping outside of the self to witness the wild freedom buried deep in the subconscious. Through these fragmented images and associations, viewers glimpse repressed emotions within constrained spaces, bringing them to light and release. His works have been exhibited at Qiantang Bay Art Museum.
