Congradulations to our German artist Ruprecht von Kaufmann on his upcoming major solo exhibition “Leben zwischen den Stühlen” (Life Between Chairs) at the Buchheim Museum in Germany. Organized collaboratively by the Buchheim Foundation and the artist himself, the exhibition presents Kaufmann’s most significant conceptual perspectives and painterly language within contemporary figurative art.
Kaufmann is renowned for his theatrical compositions and psychological narratives, with images that drift between dream and reality. Figures, animals, and fantastical forms intertwine in weightless postures, while spatial directions—front and back, above and below—are deliberately dismantled, shaping a sense of uncertain existence. The reserved spaces in his paintings function like rests in a musical score, creating a quiet and profound viewing rhythm that reflects life’s shifting states within overlapping realities and emotional seams. This exhibition presents the artist’s contemplation on the tension of existence, revealing through painting a spiritual terrain that lies between order and chaos.
