Tang Jiaxin (China, b.1995) graduated with an MA in Art from the Royal College of Art, UK, and currently lives and works in Changsha. She was discovered through Bluerider ART’s open call for China’s post-85 emerging artists, and her work has already drawn the attention of collectors in both East and West, signalling strong potential for future development.
Renowned for her distinctive paper-piercing technique, Tang introduces a fresh visual language through an intensely quiet, disciplined process. Working with heavy cotton paper, she uses a fine needle to lift and tease out the paper’s fibres, building a meditative rhythm through countless minute punctures. This near-silent repetition grants the surface an extraordinary delicacy, while transforming “fragility” into a forceful presence. Her works resemble a net of time, painstakingly carved—where silence becomes cadence, and white turns into a pulse. Each tiny perforation holds the weight of accumulated time, a settling of the spirit, and a contemporary reading of vulnerability and resilience as inseparable states.
