This is the first mid-sized representative piece in the "Wonderland" series. The background is inspired by the mythical Penglai Wonderland, aiming to create an ethereal atmosphere that feels both real and dreamlike. The mountain forms are modeled after the distinct shapes of Taihu rocks, embracing their irregular beauty to introduce dynamic movement into the composition. The overall color palette leans toward a cool, pure aesthetic, embodying a sense of stillness. The painting primarily uses clam white and mineral green as its foundational tones, evoking a jade-like softness and clarity. To balance this, subtle warm hues are dispersed around the architecture, adding a touch of life to the vast snowy landscape of dusk. In terms of technique, this piece explores new approaches by minimizing the traditional cunfa (texture strokes) often seen in landscape painting. Instead, it employs delicate outlines with layered washes and glazing, enhancing the intended atmosphere. The visual language is kept as concise and refined as possible, striving for an ancient, timeless elegance in its form.

(China, b.1996)

Dai Junpeng received his Master of Arts degree from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Currently lives and works in Guangzhou, where he also teaches at Guangzhou College. His practice moves fluidly between a contemporary sensibility and the discipline of traditional ink painting, exploring how the concepts of xu (emptiness/void) and yi (ease, transcendence) may embody the humanistic spirit of landscape imagery. Within his work, a dynamic equilibrium is sought between human subjectivity and the objective presence of nature. His works presented in Taipei, London and Los Angeles, awarded the Outstanding Graduate Prize from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
