Vertical Face of Mountain adopts the traditional Chinese “Three Distances” method—a perspective system incorporating high distance (looking up), deep distance (looking down), and level distance (looking straight ahead). This piece specifically utilizes the “high distance” perspective, inviting viewers to gaze upward from the base of the mountain to its lofty peaks. The composition conveys the grandeur and majesty of towering mountains as seen from below. Through this upward viewpoint, Cao Jigang transcends the boundaries of time and space, directing the viewer’s gaze toward the celestial pathway. The piece evokes contemplation on the infinite expanse of space and inspires reflection on the essence of the “Skypath.”
